History 27/02/20 “Falcons Vlasov”: how many pilots traitors fought against the Soviet Union

the Collaboration of Soviet citizens during the great Patriotic war was a taboo subject in the Soviet Union, the phenomenon is strongly suppressed. With the beginning of perestroika began to open up previously unknown facts, there are more data about the participants of this movement. In addition to the well-known General Andrei Vlasov, a prominent figure among the traitors were Colonel Victor Maltsev. He created his own air force of Russian collaborators.

no Prisoners

By the end of 1941 the losses of the red army prisoners amounted to about 3.8 million people. In subsequent years, this figure increased to 5.2 million. In captivity they expect inhuman conditions, many died from hunger, cold and disease. The worst thing is that Soviet homeland, these people have not waited. So, the head of the Main political administration of the red army, Lev Mehlis in early 1942, stated that the Soviet Union has no prisoners, only traitors.

a depressed state of these people tried to play the former commander of the Second shock army, General Andrei Vlasov surrendered to the Germans in the summer of 1942. He decided to create his own military unit, the idea received the support of the German command. To this end, he went campaigning in the camps where Soviet prisoners were kept. Vlasov tried to attract people with slogans of the “Communist tyranny” the overthrow of the Bolsheviks and “free Russia”.

Among those who heard of the General was captured pilots. The Germans are very badly battered aircraft of the red army: during the first days of the war the Luftwaffe was shot down in the sky about 300 Soviet aircraft and, as of the end of 1941 the Red army lost about 20 thousand cars.

the First with the idea of using captured Soviet pilots against the red army made at the end of 1942, the Luftwaffe Colonel G. Holters. To his plan he was able Prefgo to the Colonel of aviation Victor Maltsev. That he Nazi officer offered to create and lead the Russian aviation unit.

the Colonel from the dungeon

Maltsev was born in 1895 in the province of Vladimir. In 1918 he joined the Red army. In the 1920s he graduated from flight school, then promoted to chief of the air force of the Siberian military district. For success in the service of the future traitor was presented the Order of Lenin, however, to receive the award and did not have time: in 1938 he fell under the steamroller of repression, and spent a year and a half in the dungeons of the NKVD.

But Maltsev was lucky: after he was removed as Commissar of internal Affairs “Pereybere stick” Nikolai Yezhov inmates released. However, back to the army he was not accepted, in compensation for sending a sanatorium run Aeroflot in the Crimea.

However, the “efforts” of the NKVD were not for Maltsev without a trace. Later, at the trial, he told me that he was severely tortured and beaten. This, said the Colonel, made him hate the Soviet government and shortly after the fall of Yalta to be the German commander of the city, announcing their readiness to fight the “Communist plot”.

The announced collaborators, the Germans at first reacted without much enthusiasm, putting his Russian mayor of Yalta. Maltsev is clearly not satisfied: he wanted to command at the front. So the Colonel gladly accepted comer by way of offer of Halters. Maltsev strongly supported Vlasov, who wanted to create a full-fledged armed forces with armored vehicles and aircraft.

“the Falcons Maltsev”

the Colonel began to go around the camp and to persuade to join him were captured pilots. Their collaboration with the Nazis, he explained the desire to “liberate the Motherland from the Bolshevik tyranny.” In October 1943 Maltsev formed the first detachment of volunteers. To his subordinates he knocked out a month’s pay at the rate of 16 German marks. On his initiative, the now former prisoners were engaged not only a study of the Luftwaffe, but also regularly traveled to the German city to experience the local life.

His first baptism of fire under the command of Colonel-collaborator pilots were at the end of 1943. The German command recognized the experiment successful. However, under the command of Mal to transmit the group was not in a hurry.

With the formation of Vlasov’s Russian liberation army (ROA), the Germans still decided to create a formally independent of the Russian air force. Maltsev was their commander, and in March 1945 was promoted Vlasov to the rank of major-General.

Do air force collaborators by this time has grown to five thousand people. In service there were about 40 German aircraft (fighters, bombers and training machines), in addition, the air force of ROA was established reconnaissance and transport squadrons, and amphibious battalion, a signal company and a regiment of anti-aircraft artillery.

the Germans generously provided “Mal” airfields and fuel, but the swastika collaborators to carry not wished: instead on their uniform sported the Saltire.

unfortunately, the documentary information on the participation of ROA air force in the battle virtually no. The fact is that by the time the final formation of the group, the position of the German army at the front was almost hopeless. In the bustle of going was not universal prior to the writing of reports and reports. Only a few combat missions “Sokolov Maltsev”. Somehow to influence unfavourable to the Germans and their allies the situation they have, of course, could not.

Agony

About surrender to Soviet troops, none of the ROA air force did not want to think. It was decided in that case to get to the allies. Maltsev himself surrendered to the Americans on April 30. The General believed could be useful to the Americans and the British, and therefore hoped that the Soviet Union won’t give him up. However, the allies decided otherwise.

Mal was sent to a camp for collaborators, near Paris. The General tried to commit suicide twoGDI, however, die he did not allow Stalin the shore life of a traitor for revealing the trial of collaborators.

In August 1946, the Tribunal sentenced General and other former Vlasov to capital punishment. The only Maltsev never repented of the committed betrayal.
