Executioners-workers: how the Stalinists competed among themselves who will kill more

History 23/03/20 Butchers Stakhanovites: how the Stalinists competed among themselves who will kill more

the Stalinist era showed the world the faces of these people, most of whom would be better to always remain in the shadows. Where did they come from? What a godforsaken province of the Russian Empire grew? And why all of a sudden, forgetting father and mother and faith, began to earn a living by killing people.

the Executioner Blokhin: fan aprons

the Record for murders I think of the executioner of the NKVD, Vasili Mikhailovich Blokhin.

He was born in 1895 in a family of peasants in the Vladimir province. He worked as a shepherd, then as a Mason, during the World rose to senior non-commissioned officer in 1918 over to red, joined the party, he was platoon commander. With 1921, started his career in the OGPU — NKVD. In 1926 he became commandant and 30 years supervised executions.

He not just led the firing squad, and personally shot the enemies of Stalin: they were killed Tukhachevsky, army commanders Yakir and Uborevich, revolutionary Ivar Smilga, diplomat Lev Karakhan, an economist Emmanuel Kviring, Deputy of the Supreme Council Vlas Chubar, the journalist Mikhail Koltsov, the writer Isaac Babel, directed by Vsevolod Meyerhold and many others. Hand Blokhin killed himself the people’s Commissar Yezhov, under whose leadership began a mass repression.

the firing squad executioner consisted of employees from different departments of the OGPU, in the afternoon they worked to protect party leaders, and in the night killed. In the state they were listed as “commissioners for special assignments”.

according to the book “the Executioners and the penalty in the history of Russia and the Soviet Union” Vladimir Dmitrievich Ignatov, the process of execution was delivered Blokhin pleasure. Before the execution, he wore “special” brown leather jacket, gloves, leggings, and top with a long leather apron —not to be spattered with blood. Weapons preferred “Walter”, which is characterized by high reliability during long-term “job.” Colleagues spomiNali, what kind of “business day” hangman could despatch up to two hundred people. And in 1940, during a trip under Tver Blokhin personally killed 600 people.

it was Rumored, before the execution Blokhin did not drink and was forbidden to drink vodka subordinate, but after the shootings, the executioners indulged in the booze. Vodka was gone boxes.

For “heroism” Blokhin was awarded the order of Lenin, three orders of the red banner, order of Patriotic war I degree, medals. The executioner was presented a “Victory”, named after a weapon and a gold watch; he received the award – “for excellent work”.

Blokhin quietly endured all the repression and resigned “for health reasons” in 1953 with the rank of General. A year later the title was stripped, and a year later he died under mysterious circumstances – according to one of a heart attack, and others shot.

nice Maggo

Another full-time executioner of the NKVD of the Latvian Petr Ivanovich, Maggo a year personally shot 1,000 sentenced to death. He was born in 1879 in Daugavpils, was a laborer, had two class rural school in 1917, became a member of the CPSU(b), 1918 – fighter Sveaborgskaya detachment of the Cheka. In 1919 he became commandant of the internal prison of the Cheka, in 1920 – the commandant on Bolshaya Lubyanka. In 1931 at his own request, became the executioner.

During “work” so had an edge to him that one day, after killing two dozen people, nearly shot watching the killing of the head of the special Department Popova.

During the execution remained unruffled and polite smiled when he heard pleas for mercy and politely asked the women to death to strip naked. For “change” were killed from three to 15 people, worked seven days a week, and after the change liked to eat and drink – the sight of blood did not deprive him of appetite. Loved the kill shot in the head, simultaneously kicking a person in the ass – not to splash blood on the tunic.

For nine years, killed 10 000 people.

For “special merits” and “the execution of important tasks of the government” awarded the order of Lenin and two orders of the Redwow banner.

In 1940 was dismissed by Beria, for the reason that I wrote a complaint to Stalin. Drunk and committed suicide.

Resourceful Berg

Isai Davidovich Berg was born in 1905 in a family of Russian Jews in the 15 years he volunteered in the Red Army, from 1934 he worked as the head of the administrative Department of the NKVD of the Moscow region.

During the “Great purge” led a group that caused the death sentences of the “Troika” of the NKVD, became famous for the fact that before the Nazis have created a machine-they fail. In the back of a van, taken out the exhaust pipe and the prisoners died on the way to the place of execution. Previously they were beaten, obbirali, stripped naked, mouth gagged, and hands tied. Then loaded into the van like “hlebovozki” and taken to the Butovo polygon, where there were already prepared pits for burial. Those who were still alive after such “visits” were finished, and some were buried alive. For the first time the technology “worked” in 1936. All under the command of Berg killed 20 765 people.

In 1938, Berg followed the dead – he was arrested, accused of participating in a counterrevolutionary organization and shot.

“Champion” nadara

a Native of Kutaisi province, Sardion N. nadaraja was born in 1903. Career agencies began in 1926, in 1937, was chief of the internal prison of the NKVD gugb of the Soviet Union. In 1939 he was appointed Deputy head, and in 1953 – the head of security Lavrenti Beria – had supplied him with women for entertainment.

Became a “Stakhanovite” and set “record” for the number of people killed in one night – once, in the years of repressions, was shot during the day, 500 people.

was one of the few executioners, who did not escape punishment. In 1955 he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in the camps, but not for the murder of the innocent, and for “counterrevolutionary activities” according to article 58. After leaving the camp he lived in Mordovia, and then, as if nothing had happened, returned to Moscow, where he died from cardiac hearts only in 1982.

It’s not all the names. Among the executioners of mass executions differed Sigaleva brothers – Vasily Ivanovich and Ivan Ivanovich, Ivan Franzevich of Uses, Ferdinand Ivanovich Sotnikov, Ivan Feldman, and many others. Unlike the victims, they were buried in normal cemeteries, and some even next to a prominent Soviet writers at the Novodevichy. So many “rehabilitated”.

they Say, the grave of one of them and it appears the inscription in red paint: “the Executioner”. But there are those who clears it.
