Leading expert of the national energy security Fund Igor Yushkov commented to news Agency “national news service” reports about the preparation of the United States ‘ new sanctions on the “Nord stream – 2”.

According to Yushkova, statements about the new restrictive measures, threatening in case of completion of the pipeline may be unfounded, since it remains unclear how they are applied.

“Investors do not penalize for that. It’s five European companies that gave money to this project. And their money was allocated, in my opinion, even in 2018. To penalize them for something that was not forbidden, strange,” – said the analyst.

Also Yushkov expressed doubt that the U.S. will be able to determine which gas came on the “Nord stream – 2”, a “Northern stream – 1”, and some other pipelines.

In this regard, the expert suggested that before the implementation of the new sanctions policy, the case could not be reached. Yushkov considered that such statements could be made in the election campaign of the President of the United States.

Earlier it was reported that U.S. authorities are preparing to impose new sanctions if Russia will try to finish the remaining kilometers of the pipeline “Nord stream – 2”.
