History 15/03/20 Sisters Hitler: what became of them after his brother’s death

Adolf Hitler had promised his people greatness, than put it on the edge of ruin. The Fuhrer and his faithful Eva Braun ignominiously killed himself in April 1945, leaving no offspring. But still alive relatives of Hitler, among them sisters Angela and Paula, and cousin Mary. Their life was inextricably linked with the life of the leader of the Third Reich and irrevocably changed after his death.

Older sister

angel was almost 6 years older than Adolf was born in 1883, of second wife Alois Hitler, Francisco. The girl was barely a year since her mother died at the age of 23 from tuberculosis. Soon his father took up with a cousin’s niece Clara, who was much younger than her husband. The Church’s permission to marry had to seek in Rome, the local Bishop refused the wedding because of the close relationship of the bride and groom.

the angel brought together with the common children of Alois and Klara. Four of the six, including eighteen months Go, died at an early age. In addition to the Adolf family grew older brother Angels Alois Jr. and the younger sister Paula.

Angela was the only one in the family to whom the future führer experienced warm feelings and with whom I shared childhood experiences. At the beginning of 1903 had a heart attack and died their father. Angela, who received a small inheritance, she married Leo Raubal and settled separately.

at First the life of a young family was happy. Leo Raubal and older sister Giler were born three children: Leo, Angela and Elfriede. Unfortunately, 8 months after the birth of the youngest daughter Angela was left a widow. Her husband died of tuberculosis – the same disease that he once took one-year-old angel mother.

With three children and younger sister at the hands of

In the care of 27-year-old Angels were not only three young children and a younger sister Paula, which was barely 14 years. Mother Pauline and Adolf died in 1907, briefly survived by her elderly husband.

Tiny child benefits and widows pensions barely enough to make ends meet and to help my sister, who studied at the Lyceum. In the summer of 1911, it became a little easier – Adolf refused his allowance in favor of Paula.

Angela decided to move to Vienna, because in a big city is easier to find a job. Historians have found the information that she and 1915 he worked in one of the women’s apartments in the Austrian capital, and in 1919 became its leader.

Interesting fact: in 1920, the angel Raubal worked at the University of Vienna head of the Jewish kitchen. Hitler for a few years he lost touch with his sister and managed to find it only in 1919.

the Housekeeper of Hitler

In 1928, the angel suddenly refuses to managerial position and agreed to the proposal of Adolf to be his housekeeper. Along with her younger daughter Alfredo she moved to the estate “of Wachenfeld” in Obersalzberg. Hitler rented it and subsequently bought by making his main residence until 1945. After the restructuring in 30 years, the estate was named “Berghof” (“Mountain yard”).

the Staff of Hitler remembered Angela as a respected, vigorous and resolute woman. She considered herself responsible for the welfare of brother, followed by the attendants, was a wonderful cook and excellent homemaker. Angela has secured complete power in the house – any messages and notes for Hitler primarily fell into her hands.

Life in the manor half-brother was not straightforward. Persistently circulating rumors about the relationship of Hitler with “young Charmer” Gel – eldest daughter and namesake of the Angels, which lasted to the death of the niece of the Fuehrer. In September 1931, after a major argument with his uncle and likely the lover of the eldest daughter of the Angels of Raubal committed suicide, shooting himself with a pistol Hitler. According to some, at the time of death she was pregnant.

AngeLa more than anything was loyal to the brother and even the death of the daughter caused her not to leave the service of Hitler. However, with the advent in the life of the führer, Eva Braun, a sister of Adolf categorically not accepted, Angela Raubal had to take a loss. In 1935, she leaves the estate of the führer and moved to Dresden, where in a year the second time married to architect Martin Hamaca.

Paula Wolff

childhood Paula has not seen the affection of a brother. In the early 21st century German historians found her diary, the authenticity of which is confirmed by expertise. An eight year old girl writes in it about his 15-year-old brother: “I feel a heavy hand on his brother’s face.”

the German scholar Timothy Ryback, Director of the Institute for contemporary history of the city of Obersalzberg, commented on the discovery: “the Adolf replaced the girl before deceased father. He was extremely severe with his sister, repeatedly beating her. However, Paula was justified in thinking that such an approach was necessary for her education.”

the Younger sister of Adolf worked as a Secretary at a Vienna insurance company. In 1930 she lost her job, and then Hitler began to provide it with continued financial assistance, which ceased only with his death. Not needing money, Paula was limited to temporary jobs.

At the request of her brother she changed her name, becoming Paulo wolf. Hitler told her such a move “for her own safety”. After angel left the manor Berghof, the farm passed into the hands of younger sisters.

for Many years it was thought that the younger sister of Hitler was just an innocent relative of the bloody Fuehrer. However, German historians found out that she was going to marry one of the most violent perpetrators of the Holocaust, a physician and expert on euthanasia Erwin Jekelius, the conscience of which death in the gas chambers 4,000 Jews. Prevented this marriage is only a direct prohibition of Hitler.

War and the last years of life

during the Second world war, the angel lived in Dresden. She reconciled with his brother and even passed on it request the necessary information to those relatives with whom he did not want to talk. Paula the war worked as a Secretary in a military hospital.
After the bombing of Dresden by allied planes in February 1945, the Fuhrer had convinced both the sisters to move on to Berchtesgaden, to the West Germany away from the advancing troops of the red Army and ensured their relocation. Angel after the war was short-lived. She died of a stroke in the fall of 1949.

Paula was arrested by the Americans questioned but soon released. For several years she lived in the Austrian capital, spending a little bit of accumulation, then worked in the art shop. In 1952, she again moved to Berchtesgaden under the name Paula wolf, where she lived in seclusion in a small apartment until his death in 1960.

the Sister of Hitler in the Urals

Maria Koppensteiner (nee Schmidt) was the daughter of the aunt of Hitler for mother Theresa. During interrogation after his arrest by the Office of counterintelligence of the 3rd Ukrainian front, she told me that last time I talked to Hitler in 1906. However, thanks to the kinship with the head of the Third Reich Maria and her husband became the owners of 19 acres of fertile land.

Ignaz Koppensteiner, the husband of Mary, joined the Nazi party in 1932, after 6 years, his example was followed by Maria. During the war in their estate worked as laborers – Ukrainians, deported by the Nazis from their homelands. Maria Koppensteiner was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the use of forced labor. Five of them she was kept in Lefortovo prison, then it was transferred to a special prison MGB, located in Verkhneuralsk.

an Elderly woman in prison learned to speak Russian. She read a lot, until he lost his sight. Due to illness of foot, she almost could not walk. Over the sister of Hitler mocked cellmates and prison staff. The warden Vasily Slavin recalled: “the Poor man seven winters passed in sneakers thin sole. Forever protoganda woman begged me to give her the boots, but the prison said, “will do!” She refused even with glasses.”

In 1955, Chancellor Konrad Adenauer had made the repatriation from the USSR, detained in custody prisoners and interned Germans. Maria Koppensteiner not waited for this day – she died, according to one, in Verkhneuralsk prison on 6 August 1953 (according to others, December 18, 1954).
