History 06/03/20 the Battle of Taranovka: what heroism of Ukrainian “Panfilov”

Before the battle
After the victory at Stalingrad, the Soviet high command continues to advance and develop success. 16 February 1943 our troops liberated Kharkov. At the end of February the Germans had brought up reinforcements and regrouped, and in early March launch a counter-offensive. To meet the enemy on the banks of the river Mja was prepared defensive positions.
On one of the sections of the length of 8 kilometers located 78-th guards regiment, and the defense of a strategically important railway crossing near the village of Taranivka entrusted to a platoon, commanded by Lieutenant Peter * l Shironin. His unit consisted of 26 soldiers, among whom were many of the Marines, sergeants, and squad commanders. At their disposal was one 45-mm gun. Having made many kilometers March and once in place, soldiers during the night dug in the frozen ground trenches and passes messages full profile.

the Second attempt to beat the “Boulevard”

With grenades and bottles with Molotov cocktail managed to destroy 5 tanks and armored vehicles. On the position of the left 14 soldiers, most of whom were wounded.
Battle continues
“the Street” has fulfilled its initial task, but to leave the mound was not going to. After a RAID scorersers, the Germans went on the attack. The defenders, after letting the enemy at close distance, shot infantry with rifles and machine guns. To survive the red army helped the barrage of artillery from the outskirts of Taranovka.
during the battle, Sergeant Boltushkin a grenade blew up the tank, and the average Shkodin destroyed an armored personnel carrier. At the end of the battle killed an ordinary Chertenkov that after he ran out of ammo, got into a fistfight with the enemy. When the third assault was repulsed, except on the mound twice wounded Lieutenant Shironina survived four more of the red army. One soldier with serious injuries were evacuated.
At 20.00 they received reinforcements, and on the morning of 3 March after the bombing, the Germans again went on the attack. In the course of the day Soviet soldiers repulsed four attacks. Desperate defense “Boulevard” has enabled the Soviet troops to strengthen the defense and to thwart the German offensive outburst.
of the 26 people of the original structure survived only 6 of the red army. During the battle, the soldiers of the platoon and gunners from Taranovka eliminated 15 tanks and self-propelled guns, 10 armored vehicles and more than 100 enemy soldiers. After the battle of “Boulevard” became known as “Ukrainian Panfilov.”
