Emma Watson is a British actress who has become particularly well known for her role as “Hermione Granger” in the “Harry Potter” films. She is also known as an activist who campaigns for equality and women’s rights.
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, where she spent the first five years of her life. The family then moved to England. Her parents, both of whom worked as lawyers, divorced when Emma was seven years old. Emma then grew up with her younger brother Alex with her mother in Oxford, UK. At school she shone with very good grades and won the first prize in a poem competition at the age of seven. In addition, she already participated in an in-school theater group during her school years, where Emma Watson played the leading role in several plays.
In 2000 Emma Watson auditioned for the role of “Hermine Granger” for the filming of the first part of “Harry Potter” – with great success. The British prevailed against 4,000 applicants.
