Early life

The actor Oliver Rohrbeck grew up with an older sister in Berlin. Like his later colleague Andreas Fröhlich, he first visited the Berlin Wald-Gymnasium in The Three Question Marks. Then he moved to the Erich Hoepner high school. With the 11th grade, Oliver Rohrbeck switched to Erika Dannhoff’s private drama school. Oliver Rohrbeck has been active in film and television since he was a child, so he appeared as a child in the ZDF series Peter ist der Boss (1972) and in the well-known Sesame Street (1973). Oliver Rohrbeck was cast in numerous dubbing and radio play roles. In collaboration with other well-known children’s speakers, he appeared in 1976 in the high-speed program Die Montagsmaler, moderated by entertainer Frank Elstner. There he met Jens Wawrczeck, another colleague for the well-known series The Three Question Marks. Oliver Rohrbeck also won the German reading competition in 1976/1977.

Career

Oliver Rohrbeck was already in a theater at school, none other than the Berlin Schiller Theater in his spare time, performing with Bernhard Minetti and Curt Bois among others. He played the aerial spirit Ariel in the drama The Storm by William Shakespeare. When Oliver Rohrbeck had finished his acting exam, he was engaged by several stages and from 1984 to 1991 performed on the Berlin Vaganten stage in various pieces. He also took on several roles that were assigned to him in television productions such as Eine Klasse für sich (1984) or Didi – Der Untermieter (1985-1986). From the mid-1970s, Oliver Rohrbeck appeared in several radio plays by the well-known Swedish children’s author Lindgren. In 1978 he worked as Julian Kirrin in the youth adventure series Five Friends. Subsequently, Oliver Rohrbeck was committed to the European radio play version of the same name, which, like the television series of the same name, was based on novels by Enid Blyton.

Career highlights

The real highlight of his career, however, was created by Oliver Rohrbeck when the producer Heikedine Körting played one of the main roles in the detective series The Three ??? offered. In the following decades, these became one of the world’s most successful radio drama series. In it Oliver Rohrbeck can be heard alongside his friends Andreas Fröhlich as Bob Andrews and Jens Wawrczeck as detective Justus Jonas.

The live performances that the three speakers organized as a direct result of the successful series The Three Question Marks were also something special. They performed under the program title Master of Chess in a nationwide tour, where the episode of the radio play of the same name was staged there live. After the great success, Oliver Rohrbeck and his colleagues staged a new stage version, which was given the title The strange alarm clock – Live and Ticking. With this program, the trio attracted a total of more than 100,000 visitors to the cinemas and theaters in 2009. In 2010 the ensemble hosted the world’s largest live radio play in the Berlin Waldbühne with more than 15,000 spectators. Oliver Rohrbeck was also able to take part in many other well-known radio play productions, among others he was Seefahrer Sindbad and Der kleine Muck in radio play versions and cast fixed supporting characters such as Sheriff Freddy in Bibi and Tina and trainer Norbert in Die Teufelskicker.
