The crisis surrounding the highly contagious corona virus has caused many vacation plans for German citizens to be upset. After it initially looked as if no summer vacation was possible this year, the first alternatives are now emerging. Many travel providers are already reporting increases in bookings.

The tour operators are optimistic. Because in their view, trips to Mallorca and other holiday destinations on the Mediterranean should soon be possible again despite the current Corona pandemic. This naturally increases Germans’ hope for a summer vacation in the Mediterranean. And there are good reasons for this hope, because numerous politicians in Europe have already announced border openings and soon European air traffic will also be resumed. “In Spain, the Balearic Islands are the first destination we fly to. We plan to do this in late June or early July, ”explains a TUI spokesman for the“ Bild ”newspaper.

The popular Balearic Island had largely been spared the effects of the virus. Only 2,000 people were infected with the corona virus there. The island is particularly popular with German holidaymakers. However, if you still want to go to Mallorca this summer, you should hurry up with the booking. Because at TUI 40% of the contingent for this summer is already occupied by early bookers. As the travel industry confirms, interest in Mallorca has increased significantly in recent days. “Now there seem to be first signs of a catch-up effect,” confirms TUI. Travel service provider FTI-Touristik also speaks of positive signals. According to the travel company, there has been a sharp increase in requests for departures from mid-August.
