Wolfgang Petry is a German singer and composer. His real name is Franz Hubert Wolfgang Remling. But it is also known by its nickname “wool”. His favorite styles are pop and rock. He is married with one son and lives in Hennef. Another stage name of his is Pete Wolf. For a long time, countless friendship bracelets, which he carried on his arm, were his trademark. In 2002, however, he auctioned them off to donate the money for the flood relief.
Wolfgang Petry was born in Cologne on September 22, 1951. He grew up with his father, mother and brother, five years younger, in the Raderthal district. His father was a car mechanic, but also appeared as a solo entertainer and was very musical. Wolfgang made his first musical attempts at the age of eight on the recorder. Together with a neighboring child, he played polyphonic at an early age. At the age of ten he received piano lessons. At the age of twelve he started to learn to play the guitar. When Wolfgang was 16, his father died and he took responsibility for his brother. As a student he founded his first band with the “Screamers”. During his apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, he toured with her through Cologne and the surrounding area.
Wolfgang Petry’s debut album was released in 1976. Other records and television appearances followed in the 70s and 80s. A big leap in his career took place in 1991, when he landed a big hit with “Fall in love, lose, forget, forgive”. In 1996 he then looked for a suitable group to perform his songs live. He found this with the band “The Public”, which was to become his “Petry Band” and with whom he went on tour. The 1990s and 2000s were an extremely successful time for Wolfgang Petry and his band, in which they could sell many records, had countless television appearances, achieved top rankings in hit parades and gave many concerts. After he announced the end of his career in 2006, Wolfgang Petry calmed down. In 2015, however, he gave a comback with the album “Brandneu” and again reached first place in the German album charts. More recently he has appeared in blues, country and rock styles, using the pseudonym Pete Wolf.
Wolfgang Petry is one of the absolute icons of the German hit. He has had an extremely successful career and has been in the business for half a century. Wolfgang Petry has sold around 18 million records. He sold about 7.8 million of these in Germany. That is why Wolfgang Petry is one of the artists with the most sold recordings in Germany. Other countries in which he was able to sell a larger number of recordings are Austria and Switzerland. He was able to take first place on the German album charts with three of his studio albums: “Simply cool!” (1998), “Konkret” (2002) and “Brandneu” (2015). 33 of his singles were placed in the German charts. Through his record sales, he received the gold record 10 times and platinum 13 times in Germany. For five consecutive years (1997 to 2001) he was awarded the ECHO Pop Music Prize. He received the “Golden Tuning Fork” ten times.
“The image of the German hit is absolutely okay for millions of people. In addition, there are of course other tastes, and some then think they have to give the hit a bad image. But I don’t like this drawer thinking. ” “I think health is the greatest happiness we can have.” “I look death in the eye – but by the time there is still a lot of water running down the Rhine.” “Friendship and cohesion are very important to me and I live it every day, whether in the family, with my friends, my people and in my team, we are always there for each other.”
Wolfgang Petry’s recipe for success lies in his social character. The singer who claims that he cannot live alone needs people at his side and around him. If he can make other people happy with his music, it also makes him happy. He says that he owes much of his success to his wife Rosemarie, with whom he has been married for almost 50 years. For him it is very important to be there for others. Wolfgang Petry’s social streak is also evident by appearing at donation galas and supporting social projects. For him it is also important not to see music exclusively as a business, but as a passion and part of life. Authenticity and honesty are also guarantors of success.
