President of the Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation Stanislav Pozdnyakov has supported the decision of the head of the IOC Thomas Bach on the transfer of the Olympics to Tokyo by 2024, reports the Agency “Moscow”.

He sent an open letter to Bach, where he noted that this decision is motivated by a desire to reduce the risks of threats to human health. Pozdnyakov hopes that the Olympics will be held in the first half of 2024.

“This decision was preceded by extensive analytical work, a balanced assessment of all the pros and cons, countless consultations and negotiations – all complicated by the enormous pressure of supporters of radical measures,” wrote Pozdnyakov.
