Detlef Steves regularly delights the audience and the crew of his station with uncensored honest, humorous sayings and his charismatic temperament. The reality TV participant and cooking expert started it in 2009 – and hopefully it won’t end so quickly.
Detlef Steves was born in Moers in early 1969. He finished school with a high school diploma and then started training as a locksmith. In this profession, he worked at a colliery for six years. In 1988 Steves married his current wife Nicole. The two have two dogs, but no children together.
After working as a locksmith, various jobs followed for Steves: he worked as a doorman, but also in the goods receiving department of a clothing store and as a delivery driver. From 1999 to 2012, he worked in a French restaurant called “Ici Paris” and rose to become managing director. In 2012 he also opened his own restaurant, named after his nickname, “Deffi’s”.
Detlef Steves’ career on German television began in 2009 with the reality soap “Off to the bed!” of the transmitter VOX. Two years later, “Off to the Ruin!” Followed, a show that dealt with the attic of Steves’ own house. Steves achieved particular popularity through his honest, direct humor and impulsive sayings, with which he has not held back until today.
After participating several times in cooking programs such as “Grill den Henssler!” In 2013 and 2014 Steves received his own program called “Detlef muss Reisen”, in which he travels around the world and solves tasks there. In 2013, a program about his professional career was also filmed. Two years later he took part in “Let’s Dance” from RTL and started a web show that has since been reinstated.
Since 2016, Detlef Steve has been a regular contributor to the program “Hot oder Schrott – Die Allestester”, in which he tries out bizarre products together with his wife and numerous other participants. In 2017, the construction of a new home was documented in “Detlef is building a house”. The program “Detlef becomes a racing driver” has been running since 2018, in which Steves tries the sport of car racing at the Nürburgring.
Detlef Steve’s career began before his numerous television appearances. For thirteen years he worked in the baguetterie “Ici Paris” and, with a big leap in his career, even became the manager of the French restaurant. Later he even opened his own restaurant in his hometown Moers, which is closed today.
Steves’ television breakthrough came from the broadcaster VOX, which did the documentary soap “Ab ins Beet!” sent. Detlef Steves participated in this in 2009 and became extremely popular with audiences and broadcasters. In the years that followed, he often appeared on programs about cooking, such as “The Perfect Celebrity Dinner” or “Grill den Henssler”. The latter even earned him a win against Steffen Henssler.
Detlef Steves received her first TV format in 2013 with “Detlef must travel”. This program, also broadcast on VOX, took him on various trips to places around the world where he might even have to solve puzzles and tasks. He usually did all of this without a lot of money or electronic devices, although he doesn’t like to travel.
Steves has been very successful since 2016 with the regular show “Hot oder Schrott – Die Allestester”. Here, he and his wife Nicole are sent various, sometimes bizarre or strange products, which they take a close look at to assess their suitability.
– “One of my motto in life is: always think about later.”
– “There are three letters that take you further in life: do!”
– “If I found the plug for the Internet, I would pull it out.”
– “The whole freaking out is not part of the show.”
– Steves has already published two books. One of them is about fitness, nutrition and a healthier lifestyle.
– He can handle children well, but just like his wife, he doesn’t want any of his own: According to his own statements, both are satisfied to be childless.
– Although Detlef Steves can only be seen with a bald head today, he had a lot of hair in his younger years.
