16-year-old Greta von Thunberg is a representative of the international kama protection movement and the initiator of the popular movement “Fridays for Future”. She is on the list of the 100 most influential personalities in 2019 and, with her words, inspires millions of young people. Greta von Thunberg is now a global media phenomenon and PR professionals in the background earn a fortune with the climate activist.
Greta Thunberg was born on January 3rd, 2003 in Stockholm. Her mother is the famous opera singer Malena Ernmann and her father the Swedish actor Svante Thunberg. Her grandparents were well-known actors, so the family is used to fame and success.
Greta Thunberg initially diagnosed depression in the fifth grade. Because of the bullying by her classmates, Greta temporarily leaves her school. This is followed by eating disorders and panic attacks, which she explains in retrospect with her fear of the climate. The Asperger syndrome is then diagnosed at Greta. Greta has a younger sister who has ADHD. Since Greta has been committed to the environment, she has felt better. Her commitment to the climate works like therapy, she says.
In May 2018, Greta won a prize in a writing competition on environmental policy. With the publication of her contribution, other influential environmental activists become aware of her and Greta makes first contacts. At the end of the school year 2018/19, Greta successfully completed the 9th grade with excellent grades and decided on a so-called “gap year” before going to high school from 2010/21.
Although Greta was able to establish contacts with other climate activists through the writing competition, she initially acts alone. In August 2018, on the first day of school in the new school year, she stood in front of the Reichstag in Stockholm with a sign that said “School strike for the climate” and was rewarded with an enormous media presence. After the Reichstag election in Sweden, she only repeats the act every Friday. There are imitators worldwide and the popular movement “Fridays for Future” is developing. Greta Thunberg becomes an idol of the climate protection movement and she takes part in protests across Europe.
In her speeches, Greta criticizes politicians worldwide for their actions and for the standstill in climate policy. Greta is already participating in the UN conference in 2018 and will be invited to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2019 and to the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels in February. Since Greta categorically rejects aircraft as a means of transport, she mostly travels through Europe by train or with her father in an electric car. Greta Thunberg reached the peak of her media presence in September 2019 when she crossed the Atlantic with the sailing yacht “Malizia II” to take part in the UN climate summit in New York. She will travel back to Europe in November 2019 on a catamaran.
One of the greatest successes of her career will surely include her reception in New York with 17 UN sailboats and her subsequent speech at the UN climate summit. Furthermore, Greta Thunberg has already received a number of prizes that give her some influence and wealth.
An important prize in her career is winning the writing contest on environmental policy, without which she would not have been known at first. In 2018, Greta is included in the list of the 25 most influential teenagers of the year for the first time, in 2019 she is already among the 100 most influential personalities of the year. In 2019, Greta was also named Sweden’s most influential woman, received the Rachel Carson Prize and the Golden Camera, was awarded the “Ambassador of Conscience” by Amnesty International in September 2019 and received the International Children’s Peace Prize in November 2019.
Meanwhile, Greta’s views and words on the subject of environmental policy are known worldwide. She is considered extremely intelligent and fluent. In addition, she acts confidently and courageously – there is hardly a political size that Greta does not criticize. All that Greta wants is for people to wake up and become aware of the approaching disaster.
– “You are never too small to make a difference.”
– “I don’t really like to be the center of attention. All my life I’ve been the invisible girl in the background that nobody sees and no one listens to. ”
– “The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have all the facts and solutions. All we have to do is wake up and start making changes. ”
– “You say you love your children above all and yet you steal their future from their eyes.”
– “I think it is incredible that people come here to talk about climate change and arrive in their private jets.”
Asperger syndrome is considered a mild form of autism. Greta Thunberg does not see Asperger syndrome as suffering, but as an aid and drive for her commitment to the climate. Thanks to Asperger’s Syndrome, she sees “the world from a different perspective”. Greta noticed this at the age of 8, when she learned about climate change at school and did not understand how to deal calmly with the topic.
Despite her success, criticism and skepticism about the environmental activist and the people behind her, who are responsible for Greta Thunberg’s PR campaigns, have also increased.
