Short introduction

Sylvester Stallone is an American actor who has made a variety of different films in his 50-year career. However, he became particularly known for the film series for ‘Rocky’ and ‘Rambo’, thanks to which he went down in film history as a muscle-packed action hero. In addition to his muscular appearance, he is particularly characterized by his facial expressions, which are particularly distinctive due to a nerve injury at birth with subsequent paralysis of the muscles of the lower face. Sylvester Stallone also works as a director, screenwriter and film producer and is now considered one of the most successful and influential Hollywood actors who, despite his age, can still inspire the film world.

Early life

Sylvster Stallone was born on July 6, 1946 in New York City as Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone. His father was an Italian immigrant, while his mother, who was born in the United States, is of French and Jewish-Ukrainian descent. He has a younger brother – Frank Stallone – who is also an actor, singer and songwriter. In his early childhood, the family first moved to Washington DC before his parents divorced around 1965 and he grew up with foster parents in Philadelphia. Sylvester Stallone already played in the theater group in elementary school and was also a football player in the Landesliga. Because of his partial facial paralysis with the consequence of language problems, he was always advised against an acting career in his youth. Therefore, he initially focused on sports and after high school received a scholarship to the American College of Switzerland in Leysin in Switzerland, where he had his first stage appearance in a theatrical performance. After about two years, Sylvester Stallone returned to the United States, where he enrolled at the University of Miami to become a screenwriter. Before he could get a degree here, Sylvester Stallone left the university again to pursue all his advice on his acting career.

Career

The career of Sylvester Stallone – who is often referred to by his nickname ‘Sly’ – started off with little glory. So he took his first role out of money and played in the erotic film ‘The Party at Kitty and Stud’s’ in 1970. He then took on a smaller role in Woody Allen’s film ‘Bananas’ (1970) and appeared in films such as ‘Klute’ (1971) or ‘The Last Way Out’ (1973). He finally made his breakthrough in the film business with ‘Rocky Balboa’, a film for which he himself wrote the screenplay and whose production he agreed to take the lead role on the condition. ‘Rocky’ finally appeared in 1976 and was a surprise hit at the box office. A little later he was able to record another career highlight with the leading role in ‘Rambo’ – and later also with its sequels (1982). In the years that followed, Sylvester Stallone made more films each year, including well-known films such as’ Tango and Cash ‘(1989),’ Demolition Man ‘(1993),’ Driven ‘(2001),’ Shade ‘(2003),’ The Expendables’ (2010) with sequels or ‘Escape Plan’ (2013) and ‘Zwei vom alten Schlag’ (also 2013) count. He also wrote the script for some of his films and worked as a director. In recent years, Sylvester Stallone has become a bit quieter, but despite his age, he still mainly plays in action films.

He founded the restaurant chain ‘Panet Hollywood’ in the 1990s together with Bruce Willis, Jackie Chan, Demi Moore and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was also one of the most prominent advocates for conservative candidate John McCain during the 2008 US presidential election.
