Early life

Usher Raymond IV was born in southern Texas, United States. However, Usher spent most of his childhood in the state of Tennessee. His father Usher Raymond III. left the family when Usher was just one year old. He grew up with his mother, stepfather and half-brother. Usher showed great interest in music early on: at the age of nine he sang in the choir of the local church community. His grandmother quickly noticed her grandson’s talent. The family then decided to move to the big city of Atlanta because they were convinced that Usher had more opportunities to live out his talent in a larger city.

At just 13, Usher appeared on the casting show “Star Search” and was discovered by an employee of the record label “LaFace Records”. In 1993 Usher released his first single, Call Me A Mack, which was the soundtrack for the film Poetic Justice. A year later his first album “Usher” followed. In 1997 his second album “My Way” was released. Two years later, Usher released a live album that was awarded gold in the United States. His record “8701” (2001), his fourth album “Confessions” (2004) and “Here I stand” (2008) were also crowned with great success. In 2010 Usher’s sixth album “Raymond vs. Raymond ”, six single releases made it into the top 40 single charts in the United States. The record “Looking 4 Myself”, Usher’s seventh album, was also a number one success. In addition to music, he also devoted himself to acting. In 1998 Usher made his debut in the sitcom “Moesha”.
