Early life

Kerstin Ott was born in West Berlin and has lived in Heide, a city in Schleswig-Holstein, since childhood. In her childhood she sang in a choir by Rolf Zuckowski and took part in talent competitions. As a hobby musician, she already wrote the song “The Always Laughs” with which Kerstin Ott had her breakthrough around the year 2005. According to them, the song was created within five minutes for a friend who was ill at the time. At that time, Kerstin Ott gave away some CDs he had burned himself. One of the recipients put the song online and years later Stereoact discovered it and released it as a remix on Kontor Records.

In the original version of the song, Kerstin Ott accompanied himself on a simple guitar, which is why it is assigned to the genre “Schlager”. It is different with the mix from Stereoact – it belongs to “Melodic / Deep House”.

In October 2018, the autobiography “Die almost always laughs” by Kerstin Ott was published. That same year, the single “Regenbogenfarben” appeared in a duet with Helene Fischer.

She was last seen on TV in 2019. Kerstin Ott took part in the 12th season of the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” and took 10th place there. It was only in March 2017 that “The Always Laughs” was declared the most successful work of 2016 and was awarded the German Music Author Award. In Germany and Austria, the title climbed to number 2 on the charts and stayed in the top 10 for several months.

The single “Scheissmelodie” went to number 31 on the charts in 2016 and stayed in the top 100 for the following three months. At the end of 2016, their debut album “Herzbewohner” was released, which reached number 4 on the German album charts. For “heart dwellers” she was awarded the gold record.

In 2017 she received the German Music Author Award in the “Most Successful Work” section. Kerstin Ott released her second album “Mut zur Katastrophe” on August 25th, 2018, directly increasing to number 5 on the German album charts. In the 2nd week she even reached 3rd place.

Most recently, she released her probably most personal and emotional studio album “I have to tell you something” on November 1st, 2019, with which she landed at number 2 on the charts. She dedicated three songs from the album to her wife. In the same year she was named “Singer of the Year” by GfK Entertainment.
